George Carlin died.He was only 71.
So I wound up babysitting just my 7-year-old and 3-year-old-niece(my 10-year-old-nephew was at a sleepover).They watched videos(we had dinner-pizza-before).

The whole Nick Hogan thing is redoinkulous. The fact that Nick is not the only juvenile in the jail is interesting,no? I can't believe that he's complaining about his jail cell-I've seen a picture of it-it's WAY nicer than most jail cells,I must say. He should be grateful he only got 7 months.

I watched Shot In The Heart the other day. It's based on a book by Mikhail Gilmore, who is the brother of Gary Gilmore, who was executed by a firing squad in Utah in 1977.
It went a long way to explaining why the family was the way they were. There were four boys-Gary,Frank Jr.,Gaylen and Mikhail(who was born Michael but changed it as a teenager).
The boys' mother Bessie was a Mormon, going back generations, and had a lot of Mormon superstitions that she held on to.
Their father Frank was not Mormon(raised a devout Catholic).By all accounts he had a bad temper. The film highlights things that were going on in their family when the boys were growing up.Frank Sr. died when Mikhail was fairly young(he was in his 60's when Mikhail was born).Gaylen died, and Gary died,so a family very much touched by tragedy.
One thing in this movie that would drive certain Mormons I know crazy is Mormons doing well, non-Mormon things(drinking coffee, or tea-there's a scene where Bessie is drinking tea-a no-no for Mormons).Granted, the Mormons that I have known in my life(and I've known a few) are not representative of all Mormons. They're the sort of Mormons that the very rigid Mormons(only 2 people) I know are driven *crazy* by.
The Miley Ray Cyrus thing is so many different levels of disturbing it is not even funny.Ugh.A child(and she IS a child) should not be photographed the way that she was.I know some people who would call her a "hottie". *vomits*. If someone called her a "hottie" I have no problem with reporting them.Srsrly.

The parents of a little girl who died because they refused to take their daughter, who was diabetic, to a doctor(they decided to pray for her instead) are being arrested and charged.Damn right. This kid should have been seeing a doctor at least once in a while, even if her parents were not trusting of doctors.Being a diabetic myself(though I think this little girl was a Type 1 diabetic)I know how important seeing doctors and keeping my sugars low is.

I know that I'm not really one to talk, since I don't have any kids(I have nieces and nephews),but Leah Remini, formerly of The King Of Queens, is whacked in the head. Her daughter is four years old, FOUR, and she is allowed to have six bottles a night, and is still in diapers.Um, what?Seriously, aren't most kids drinking out of normal cups at that age,to say nothing of out of diapers.Yes,they might still wear Good Nights(a lot of kids wet the bed,so they're necessary)..but diapers? All the time?
This must be some sort of L. Ron Hubbard thing(Leah and her husband are Scientologists).I know Suri Cruise is never told "No" to anything so def. a Scientology thing.

And completing the "happy family" theme :P The story about the woman who was held captive by her dad for 20 odd years and had a bunch of kids is incredible. Not only is he dad to those kids, he's also their grandfather.Apparently Appalachia extends all the way to Austria :P

I watched Bones last night.Normally I wouldn't have watched it but they had a storyline with a baby, who was so cute.I could not figure out how old the kid was supposed to be though-the kid had quite a few teeth,so maybe he was closer to a year old, than whatever age they said(6 or 7 months,I think..)
The perfect combination of relaxing and getting things done :)
I'm kinda excited about the Pope's visit to the States-even if he's not going to be anywhere near San Diego. It's like "Uh, your Holiness? There are Catholics in other parts of the country!" Sorry.I had to say that,:P
And I'm a Cafeteria Catholic.There.I said it.There are plenty of things that I disagree with the Church on.Oh boy do I ever. That's putting it mildly.
One was on CBS called The Lord's Camp.It was made by the same people that directed Jesus Camp(and honestly,if you haven't seen Jesus Camp ,you need to.It's enlightening and scary in equal parts.)
This was only a little less scary than Jesus Camp. They followed 3 girls who were at the camp.It really was like a boot camp, but everything had a Christian bent to it in some way(there were blocks with the books of the bible on them and the campers had to put them in order from Genesis to Revelation.)
In any case,it just rubbed me the wrong way. It's Evangelical Christians trying to impose their morals and ideas on me and I'm sorry,I'm not biting.Red States, anyone?
The second show that I watched was a TV movie called The Memory Keeper's Daughter. It's one that I reccomend-I'm sure that it will be shown again, since Lifetime(the channel it was on)tends to air TV movies like that more than once.
The plot of the movie is that a woman has twins-one is healthy, but the other has Down Syndrome.Since the movie takes place back in the 60's and they didn't know what they do know, the father tells the nurse to take the baby to a hospital where she will be taken care of,assuming that she won't be able to do anything because she has Down Syndrome. But the nurse doesn't take the baby to the hospital, she raises her as her own,and she surpasses all expectations.
Meanwhile, the father told his wife that the baby was dead,so that is what she assumes.I won't spoil it any further but I really liked it.Well written and well acted and I had a lump in my throat at the end.
*I LOVE Starbucks' new Pike Place blend coffee. "The shiz" doesn't even begin to cover it ;)

*The Howard Stern show was the height of drama this morning.Artie(Lange, one of the Stern show crew)was having an argument with his assisant Teddy which spilled over onto the air,and let's just say that it wasn't pretty.Things were really heavy on air afterwards, but they're all on vacation next week so hopefully things will get sorted out.
Robin(Quivers, another of the Stern show crew)has been championing a charity for women in Eritrea.Fred, the Stern Show's sound effects guy does an impression of the president of Eritrea that sounds like a cross between Idi Amin and Cookie Monster(The Last King of Sesame Street? lol)

*File this under "Religion is bad, mmkay?":
The story about Warren Jeffs' compound in Texas being raided is so many different levels of disturbing it's not even funny. They can't tell who is related to who(and there is some inbreeding going on there-insert joke-pun intended-here going on to be sure)
Kenneth Copeland ministries are supremely messed up.They have 6-hour services. They say you can go home if you want to,but that if you do you're being disruptive and you're endangering your salvation, and that of other people.Wow. Judgemental much?

*Lastly, new episodes of CSI and ER tonight, yay!
I had a very relaxing Easter.A lot of Easter dinner I did ahead of time so that eliminated a lot of stress right there. My dad and I went to church, then we came home and hung out for a while until my brother and his wife and kids and my mom's friend Linda came over for dinner.
1)I have been getting mail from Holland America trying to entice me into taking another cruise,Believe me, it's very tempting ;)I think that if I were to go on another cruise I would go to Panama.
2)All I will say about the whole Spitzer thing is this:If it weren't an election year this wouldn't be a big deal.
3)I got new glasses Tuesday and I love them.
4)Duran Duran are playing Valley View(a local casino)and I am seriously considering going.
5)Am I the only person who thinks that Robert Downey playing a black man(with black face makeup-no lie!)for a movie role is really dodgy?I do.
6)Livejournal no longer has free accounts,Which makes me glad that I'm at Vox where it's free(and if Vox ever became pay to blog,I'd just find someplace else to blog, which is a shame because I like it here at Vox,I like the fact that it's free.)
7)Sanjaya from last season's American Idol got hired for some kid's Bat Mitzah.I hope the kid was actually a fan of Sanjaya's :) He's a mensch, that Sanjaya.
8)It was GREAT to see Obama winning the primary in Mississippi. The *Democratic* primary. In what I believe, has always been a classically red state(someone can correct me if I'm wrong)
9)The Catholic Church has announced that there are seven more deadly sins:
Polluting
Genetic engeneering
Being too rich
Drug dealing
Abortion
Pedophilia
Causing social injustice
Thoughts:I love the irony of them considering pedophilia a deadly sin.Isn't that ironic?Yeah,I really do think.
10)Last night I watched part of that show The Moment of Truth, where they hook people up to a lie detector and ask them really tough questions.Well, the guy on there last night was Mormon, and they were asking him questions about some rather non-Mormon behaviour that he might have induldged in.I could picture what certain Mormons of my acquaintance-ex online friends to be absolutely correct about it-would say about this guy. They're as judgemental as it gets. They're horrible representatives of their religion.
1) I'd like some opinions on this one: Is calling a 3-year-old hottie creepy?Granted, the person that said this(on a messageboard)is NOT a child molester(nah..just an a**hole of the highest order :P)He apologised for the comment..sort of,when the mother of said child objected(understandably!) to her child being called a hottie. This person apparently does not do apologies, because he is NEVER wrong.Um,OK, yeah. I still say referring to a 3-year-old in such a way is creepy.Sexualising them, if you will.Granted, this is only about half the story(oh my god..there is so much more to it..but that's the Cliff Notes version.)

2)I can't completely give up hamburgers, even with the recall of tons of steaks and ground beef here in So.Cal. I like steaks too much to completely give them up.And there's a whole story behind why I won't go completely vegetarian...I'll just leave it at that.

3)I went to Mass yesterday(going to go every Sunday during Lent!) And there was a baptism during the Mass.Usually those are done on/around Easter (but it's not restricted to then, about which more in a minute).Of course it brought back memories of my nephew/godson Jax's baptism, many years back.He was already a year and a half old when he was baptised(some parents-like my brother and his wife-put off baptising their kids-my 17-year-old niece wasn't baptised 'till she was 10 months old.It used to be that the Catholic Church encouraged parents to baptise kids as soon as possible after they were born. But I digress.)
The font that they used to baptise Jax was deep- they stood him up in there-the water came up to his chest! He could actually touch the bottom of the font. Then at the end of the ceremony the priest held him up in front of the entire church-and at the time he was a buddha baby-which changed not long afterwards. But that priest's back was probably hurting the next day, god love him(pun intended!)

4)I dunno if I am the only one having this problem, but any time(and I do mean *any*) time I try to access Yahoo whilst I'm in Firefox,it quits for no reason whatsoever. No big(I just use Safari instead)but it's really bizarre.
