- This happened a few days ago but I wanted to mention the FCC fine for Janet Jackson's "incident" at the Superbowl a couple of years ago being thrown out,The reaction was over the top to be sure, and they made it sound like a TON of people complained but really it was the same people calling in over and over again.
- Sam The Cooking Guy served Kathie Lee Gifford and Hilda Kob the other day. They were on the later Today show and were talking over him.He got sick of it and told them to shut it.Heh.
- Estelle Getty died.I wasn't really a Golden Girls fan but I was sad to hear that she died :(
- On their way back to Oklahoma City,my brother and his wife and their kids stopped in Austin so that my niece could check out the University Of Texas(she thought it was too big) and Baylor in Waco. She's going into her senior year of high school in a few weeks so the decision about where she has to go to college has to be made fairly soon.Of course, my parents,brother,sister-in-law, niece and nephews and I would LOVE it if she went to UCSD ;)
- The whole Christian Bale assault thing is kinda sketchy,no?I get the feeling that we're not getting every part of the story but from what I know of it he is estranged from his family, and his sister asked for a huge amount of money so she can raise her kid. Also, his mom hasn't exactly been kind where his wife is concerned(CB's wife is very pretty;I've seen pictures of her.)I think both his mom and his sister are trying to find things to bust his chops about.
My dad and I went to see Romeo and Juliet at the Old Globe last night. It was really good. But they always are at the Globe. They warned us beforehand that it would be an hour and a half before the intermission, but it seemed to go by really quickly.
I heard it said that Imus might be senile, even though he's the same age as my father(but looks 20 years older!). Making another stupid comment is not helping his situation very much(Understatement of the decade?).
Tomorrow is the first day that gay couples will be able to be married in California. Some people think it's great(myself included, even though I'm not gay....just a supporter of individual rights ;) ),others think that it's a sign of the apocalypse. To each his or her(or should that be his and his and hers and hers? :P) own.
Some local churches will do same sex marriages(I would think that the number of denominations that will do same sex marriages is pretty small).I know there are a lot of denominations that won't do them(for moral and legal reasons).
New foods at the Del Mar Fair this year:
Frog legs
White Castle sliders(or something approximating them)
Pickles marinated in kool-aid(which are apparently quite tasty.I'm gonna pass, thanks.)
Chicken and waffles
Deep fried macaroni and cheese
Deep fried Spam
(Needless to say,I'm not trying any of these when I go to the Fair today) I always go to this place called The Burger Joint which has burgers(and fries)that taste just like In And Out Burgers.Mmmm.

I'm surprised there wasn't more "Oooh, spooky!" because of the fact that Tim Russert just *happened* to die on Friday the 13th. He died yesterday. There's nothing spooky about it.His time was up.

Gay marriage is almost here!As of next week, it'll be legal to get married in most of Califonia, except for some of the more conservative backwaters(San Diego may be a Republican stronghold, but we sure as hell are not a backwater!)

Things I'm doing to help the enviroment:This is a small one,but instead of asking for a paper cup at Starbucks, I ask for a regular coffee mug.Not much, but it DOES help.Plus, I hate the "old" new Starbucks logo,in brown and white(which apparently was the way it was when Starbucks first started.)
So I wound up babysitting just my 7-year-old and 3-year-old-niece(my 10-year-old-nephew was at a sleepover).They watched videos(we had dinner-pizza-before).

The whole Nick Hogan thing is redoinkulous. The fact that Nick is not the only juvenile in the jail is interesting,no? I can't believe that he's complaining about his jail cell-I've seen a picture of it-it's WAY nicer than most jail cells,I must say. He should be grateful he only got 7 months.

I watched Shot In The Heart the other day. It's based on a book by Mikhail Gilmore, who is the brother of Gary Gilmore, who was executed by a firing squad in Utah in 1977.
It went a long way to explaining why the family was the way they were. There were four boys-Gary,Frank Jr.,Gaylen and Mikhail(who was born Michael but changed it as a teenager).
The boys' mother Bessie was a Mormon, going back generations, and had a lot of Mormon superstitions that she held on to.
Their father Frank was not Mormon(raised a devout Catholic).By all accounts he had a bad temper. The film highlights things that were going on in their family when the boys were growing up.Frank Sr. died when Mikhail was fairly young(he was in his 60's when Mikhail was born).Gaylen died, and Gary died,so a family very much touched by tragedy.
One thing in this movie that would drive certain Mormons I know crazy is Mormons doing well, non-Mormon things(drinking coffee, or tea-there's a scene where Bessie is drinking tea-a no-no for Mormons).Granted, the Mormons that I have known in my life(and I've known a few) are not representative of all Mormons. They're the sort of Mormons that the very rigid Mormons(only 2 people) I know are driven *crazy* by.
Last night I watched Swingtown(think a TV version of The Ice Storm) complete with music from that era.I'm waiting for the very special key party episode :P

I saw a story about these kids that were now allowed to graduate from high school because they had rebel flags on the back of their cars. The surprising thing? That it was in Minnesota,of all places.*shakes head*

I had some strange dreams the other night:
The first was that I was at this coffee house that had a super low ceiling(I mean,I was bent over, and I'm not that tall!) but then after a while you walked into a room that had a HUGE ceiling.
The second was that I was on a boat(a cruise ship?) and saw a Cunard cruise ship but it was HUGE.I mean,it made all of the other Cunard ships look *tiny*.It made the Oosterdam, the cruise ship we went on in January, look small, and that's saying something!
The third was that I was with my mom when she went to the library to drop off a book, and it was right before the library closed so I was mad at her for putting it off until the last minute.I wandered off while she was in the library. For some reason they were doing an archelogical dig right in the middle of the library.I decided to hide from my mom for some reason, but I woke up before I could find out of she found me or not!

Obviously, I decided not to make my blog entries private.
I heard from my parents! Not a very long email, but they said Morocco was very exotic.Glad to hear that they're having a fun time :)

This is cool:I am going to be babysitting my nephews and niece(ages 10,7 and 3)on Friday night.I can't wait. They're good kids so it'll be easy :)

Yes,I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the new David Sedaris book. I LOVE what I have read of it so far :)

This is sorta old news, but I think it's very cool that Clay Aiken is going to be a dad!(I know I've talked a bit of smack about Clay in the past but it's just that:In.The.Past.

Had some interesting dreams last night:
The first was that I was at the airport;I was waiting for my parents, and when they finally showed up they had so much luggage it looked like we had been on vacation for a while!
The second was that I went to a movie with my parents and my younger nephews, who fell asleep right after the movie started :)
So I saw Sex In the City yesterday.I liked it a lot.
I was supposed to meet my brother and his 3 kids for dinner(we went to Soup Plantation). It actually worked out perfect in terms of when the buses were running after I got out of the movie(the buses don't run as much on the weekend).
I enjoyed hanging out with my brother and his 3 kids.I haven't seen them for a while so it was nice. They had just got back from a Boy Scout campout overnight.I had to call the SATC movie Girls In The City when I was around them.Works for me :)
Bo Diddley died:( Hard to believe. He was a class act,for sure.
That was the winning word at the National Spelling Bee last night, won by Sameer Mishra from West Lafayette,Indiana.
(what exactly *is* a guerdon? something one has earned or gained,)
