Warning:If you don't like pissy posts, quit reading now.You have been warned.
One of the previews they showed was for The Golden Compass Now I REALLY can't wait for it to come out!As I said the other day,I'm reading the book.It started out a bit slow, but now it's getting quite good.
I went to the nice(r) movie theater, the Krikorian in Vista to see the Harry Potter movie. It's much nicer than the one by my house, and seems a LOT bigger even though it only has 15 screens.
Further to my mentioning my disillusionnment with the Catholic Church, I talked to my family in Oklahoma who said that they have actually been going to church as of late. They had no idea about the whole Benedict controversy.
I felt a little bit bad about shooting my mouth off about the Church, knowing that they have actually been making an effort to go to Mass as of late(As godmother to two of my nephews, it's up to me to see that they get some sort of input where religion is concerned.)Obviously, with the older of the two nephews,I'm a bit conflicted.Part of me is glad that they are making the effort to go to Mass. The other part of me is really bothered by them being members of a church that recently, has been taking more steps back than they are forward(that is not a good thing).
As I said not too long ago,I see going to church as my Zen.I'm starting to rethink that.It doesn't look like there's going to be any sort of mea culpa coming from Benedict anytime soon which worries me even MORE. Can we impeach a Pope?(well, not impeach..whatever the Vatican's version of impeaching is :P)
Oh and before anyone thinks of it or suggests it, I do NOT want a Free Book.I got that shoved down my throat at a place that shall remain nameless. It was so bad I would pretty much consider it harassment(yes I know they're suppposed to try and convert people but still.)Anyways,I wouldn't want to be part of a religion that doesn't allow me to drink coffee.I loves my Starbucks too much :P
Pope Benedict is saying that other churches(i.e. Protestants, etc.) are not true Churches and that the Catholic Church is the only true Church. That's not anything new,but now it's something that Pope Benedict is pushing in a major way. This sort of thing isn't anything new,the Protestant churches claim that *they* are the ones that are going to go to heaven, and us Catholics are going to be screwed.
As if Catholics don't have enough to be embarrassed by, what with the sex abuse scandals which the church *still* has yet to do much about(IMO).It's almost enough(I said *almost*) to make me convert, or to become an atheist at the very least. And this is coming from someone who is godmother to two of my nephews.
I'm starting to understand why we are disliked by other denominations though.
Let's see how long it takes for Benny to issue a mea culpa though.I realize that he's old school but he hasn't made any friends with some of the stuff he's said.I liked him when he first became Pope but now...I just don't know.
Last night I watched a show called Supercomet. It was about a comet hitting the Earth. Not anything new,to be honest, *and* it was stretched out to two hours.I noticed they borrowed from what we knew about comets/asteroids(they had the comet hitting the Earth in the Yucutan which is where a comet/asteroid hit the Earth and killed the dinosaurs.
I call bull**t on this though:Houston is only a thousand miles away from the Yucatan? They said that anyplace that was within a thousand mile radius would be screwed, and apparently Houston(and all of the Gulf Coast for that matter) would go bye-bye.Anyone who wasn't incinerated(suppoosedly) would be washed away by the huge tidal wave caused by the impact of the comet.I noticed they showed a tidal wave hitting New York City. Deep Impact, anyone?
But it was just the worst case scenario aspect of it.Granted, life went on, but it took a few years. But it was bad.I just don't like it when they make it as bad as possible.
It's almost as if they get off(for lack of a better word)on catastrophising suff like comets and asteroids.
I was surfing around looking at various blogs and someone mentioned Sinead O'Connor's appearance back in 1992 on Saturday Night Live.To give it some context, she decided to sing this song, and sing the words "Child abuse" instead of "racism"
At the time, she had read about child abuse in the Catholic Church(funny how,15 years later, very little has changed!) and was outraged by it,so decided to do this song as a protest, changing the words slightly, as I said.I wondered if it was online anywhere. In these days of Youtube,of course!(though supposedly it's on a Best Of Saturday Night Live DVD)
So, here it is(Not responsible for the eternal souls of anyone who chooses to watch it!)
*First,Paris Hilton.I hope her time in jail humbled her.It was amazing to me how there were a TON of people waiting for her to be released from jail.A expert on body language said that her body language was saying that she was very shy. So she had some experiences in there,I suspect(she doing her first post-jail interview with Larry King today.I know I'll be watching.)
*The whole Bobby Cutts story makes me SO angy.I don't even know where to start expressing how angry that makes me-the police department he works for is saying "please don't judge us". Ummmmmmm yeah.Yeah, right. You know the fact that he's a cop means he got special treatment for as long as possible. He killed the mother of his unborn baby in front of her son who is probably old enough to remember it.Scarred for life, anyone?
*On a similar note it was interesting to see how people were talking about Chris Benoit. This was before they knew that he murdered his wife and kids(or if they did, they were in denial about it).Once the news broke about what *really* happened, everything changed. There's no Chris Benoit merchandise on the WWE website, and they are basically acting like he never existed(and I'm not sure that's a bad thing, quite frankly.)
And finally, there was a story about two girls that got kicked off of Portland Oregon public transit because they were kissing. The bus driver called them "sickos".(he got in trouble later).Kicking teen lesbians off a bus in Portland?Gee I was under the impression that Portland was a bastion for liberals.Apparently not!
Paris Hilton is out of jail already because of some medical condition?Dude. She did what,3 days out of her 23 day sentence and now she is going to be on house arrest? She should have just done house arrest in the first place. But nooo. They had to sentence her to jail time .
I suspect that her getting out of jail early has more to do with her being a celebrity and less to do with her supposed medical condition.I call bull**it,bigtime. And she's going to be on house arrest but with lots of restrictions. On one hand, we won't have to read daily reports about how miserable she is in jail, but on the other hand she is on house arrest.Like I said, that is what she should have been sentenced to in the first place. You could have figured that this was going to end with Paris getting a "Get out of jail free" card.
We are WAY too nice to celebs-though I am glad to see that people are suitably angry about Paris being out of jail already.
All the entertainment shows are going to be on this story like stink on you-know-what.Oh my gosh.Forget about Lindsay Lohan. She's going to be at the bottom of the news pile for a couple of days, thanks to Paris. This is the sort of thing that Abscess,I mean Access.Hollywood lives for.Though I think that Entertainment Tonight may have a little more tact. But just a little. They had amazing restraint with teh TomKat wedding, whilst Abcess Hollywood went crazy. But that's about what I'd expect from them.Oh and wait until next week's issues Of The National Inquirer,et al. They are going to have insider stories from people that were in jail with Paris. You know they will.

On the flip side of that..it seems that Glenn Beck has been replaced-or at least he's taking a extended break.I kind of hope it's that he's been replaced.-Headline News finally gave in to all the people who wrote in to complain what a douche the guy is.Or at least they gave him a very long vacation. The guy gets WAY too wound up about a lot of thingls(mostly Islamofacists, homosexuals and liberals)which makes it not at all surprising that the guy is a idol to other likeminded people *cough*TomWalker*cough*)
I guess I would consider myself a former Travis fan now. This whole deal with the tour has really put me off of them. I hate to say it, since I have met so many really cool people because of them-and there don't seem to be NEARLY the amount of psycho Travis fans that there are of other bands-if there are I haven't met them. The weird thing is,I've liked Travis twice as long as any of the other bands that have been my "favourite" bands in the past.
It reminds me of when I quit liking Duran Duran. That was just as abrupt.Actually, it was more like I got sick of the crap I was getting from people about liking Duran Duran(literally, I was one of only about 2 people in my junior high school that liked them).
One day I just said "screw it" and tore all the posters and pictures I had on my closet doors-and I had a few-off. and said that I wasn't a Duran Duran fan anymore.Plus,I was disillusioned. They had put out Wild Boys some time before and, IMO,it was sub standard, even for Duran Duran.
But back to Travis-I am going to miss being a fan because of the band themselves because the band actually likes meeting their fans and hanging out with their fans before and after shows.I am going to miss that. However, if they add a tour date in San Diego,or Los Angeles(I'm willing to travel!)I may reconsider.
*I downloaded a copy of the Casino Royale script. I think it's OK to say that since the movie has been out for a while. It was a early script, and it's amazing to see what was changed in the movie and what was left out as well.Speaking of CR,I had this weird dream about James Bond, with Anthony Hopkins and Giancarlo Giannini in some sort of Bond film(not sure about the plot,though..but I think I know why Giancarlo is in that dream..he played Inspector Pazzi in Hannibal...with Anthony Hopkins!)
*A woman had a seizure and almost crashed into a school(I forget where it was..I want to say back East somewhere..).Whenever that happens, I always wonder if they had seizures before or if it was a random thing. If it's happened before then they shouldn't be driving(I know for a fact that you can't have a driver's licence if you have a seizure)
*I got another call from Western Dental, even after I told them that I was going to another dentist(because I can't stand the way that WD does things..and it's not just that particular Western Dental, it's all of 'em)
*I found out today that my brother and his wife and kids are going to be visiting for a week this summer(this is the brother who lives out of state),so I'm excited about that-and they're going to be here for a week. Plus my parents are driving out there at the end of this month.
Glenn Beck is the world's biggest idiot.I do not know why Headline News continues to employ him-I would LOVE to know what his ratings are like.I know that certain people *cough*Tomwalker*cough* worship the ground that he walks on because he is a)Mormon and b) he beats the Islamofascism dead horse.Constantly.
Yes, this isn't my usual happy self type entry,I know.I'm going through some things(I'd rather not get into the particulars if it's all the same..).I just tell myself "This too shall pass". I mean, what I'm going through isn't that big of a deal in the scheme of things, but I tend to catastrophise things that would be minor to other people.Things will probably be back to normal by tomorrow though.
I'm following the 3 strikes rule here, and Western Dental have them with me.
First Strike:Making me wait for an hour and only *then* telling me that they were shorthanded because someone had quit.
Second Strike:After my appointment the other day, making a follow up appointment without asking me and calling me and telling me about it later.
Third Strike:AGAIN, calling me Thursday and trying to set up another appointment.I told them I had already set up an appointment(which I am now NOT going to-I got the name of another dentist thank goodness).
I dunno,am I being unreasonable? After asking around a bit, I find that these are common tactics for Western Dental.
Wow it was COLD last night. Then it got a bit warmer. Now, it's cold again. My parents are luckly, they are in Hawaii right now(and I'm not!:P) going to a friend's son's wedding.Nice :)Going to the other extreme, a week from now I will be at Coachella. That is going to be awesome.I can't wait. And tomorrow I am going to hang out with my brother and nephews in their hood(my sister-in-law and Chloe are out of town).
