It'll be a while before anything actually happens
The Justice Department approved the Sirius/XM merger. I am actually very excited about it.Now all they have to do it get the FCC to approve it and they're good as gold.
And that will be the rub.Because the FCC is the whole reason that I have Sirius,to be quite frank,When BoobGate happened at the Superbowl(when was that?like 5 freaking years ago?)and everyone was *outraged* that Janet Jackson's boob was exposed on TV(just so you know:The "tons" of outraged people who called in to complain were just the same 20 people calling in over and over again.)
Being a Sirius subscriber,at the outset I was one of the people that tended to dismiss XM as a poor cousin of Sirius. Not really so.The gym that I work out at has XM and the selection of music is pretty darn good,I have to admit.Though I have to admit, sometimes they edit the songs on XM and they *don't* do that at Sirius.I have to wonder if that is going to change.
But they have to come up with radios that will be able to get the signals from both XM and Sirius, and that is probably still a few years in coming(and I'll have to shell out for a new radio). But who knows?
Also, they will have to figure out plans for people who want some Sirius, and some from XM-there is some talk that there will be an a la carte plan. That is one aspect of the merger that I will be interested to see how they do.
